Frequently Asked Questions
The Alton Towers Gardens will be open to guests on weekends from Friday 13th November. The Gardens form part of our 550 acres site and are steeped in history and hidden gems. Laid out by Charles Talbot, 15th Earl of Shrewsbury, over 150 years ago, they have many fantastic features installed including the Pagoda fountain and the fantastic Conservatory, which has undergone a £1.9m restoration in the past few years.
The Gardens have been open to the public in one form or another since 1839 but are often overlooked by guests as they rush from one ride to another. We are delighted to have this opportunity to offer guests the chance to enjoy the Gardens in the winter period following a successful summer reopening.
Please note that the paths in our Gardens are steep in places, so to make the most of your visit and explore all areas we do suggest that you bring practical footwear. For any specific enquiries about access, please contact email@example.com.
All of our rides and attractions, and all Resort accommodation, will remain temporarily closed due to the latest Government restrictions and guidelines (issued on the 4th November) in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Some areas of the Theme Park are therefore closed to visitors for the safety of our guests, but there is still much to enjoy in our Gardens including the Pagoda fountain and the fantastic Conservatory, which has undergone a £1.9m restoration in the past few years.
We have implemented enhanced cleaning regimes in line with government guidance, which will be taking place throughout the day seeking to disinfect those points most touched, such as tables and chairs, service counters, door handles and taps. This cleaning regime has been successfully in place since reopening in the summer.
The Gardens will be open from 10am until 3pm, with last entry at 1pm. Please note that the Gardens will only be open to guests on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Guests will be able to purchase hot and cold drinks, and snacks, as take-away only. We do politely ask that all litter is disposed of in the bins provided. Please note we will only be accepting card payments.
Only guests with pre-booked tickets will be allowed to gain entry into the Gardens. We are opening with limited capacity to ensure the health and safety of all our guests and employees, and as such any guests who do not have a pre-booked ticket will not be permitted entry.
The health and safety of our guests and staff is always our number one priority and we will continue with a number of additional hygiene and safety measures which you’ll see in place when you visit. Click here to find out more.
The suggested route through the Gardens is broadly the same as June, although some pathways have been closed to allow us to prepare for our Christmas events. However, you will still be able to enjoy all the main features in the Gardens including the conservatories and the Pagoda fountain.
We encourage guests to visit to enjoy their daily exercise in the Gardens and take advantage of the hot and cold drinks and snacks that are on sale. We don’t encourage guests to bring picnics at this time, although you are of course welcome to bring your own snacks with you.
Unfortunately, we are not able to open The Towers at this time, and access to some areas of the park theme park will be closed to visitors for their own safety.
Our rides and attractions remain temporarily closed due to the latest Government restrictions and guidelines (issued on the 4th November) and public health guidance in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. Our Gardens will only be available to those who pre-book tickets in advance.
Yes, we will be continuing to conduct temperature checks on all our guests and employees as they arrive at the Resort. In the event that a group of guests is not permitted entry to the Gardens, we will gladly rebook your visit when convenient and at no additional cost. The health and safety of our guests and staff is always our number one priority and we have therefore introduced a number of additional hygiene and safety measures which you’ll see in place when you visit, including social distancing. These were also in place when we previously opened The Gardens in the summer.
Our Gardens will have a strictly limited capacity and anyone looking to visit must have pre-booked tickets before arriving at Alton Towers Resort.
Your pre-booked tickets will be checked on arrival at Admissions. Please wait patiently and show your documents to be scanned when asked.
Once on site please pay attention to the new signage around the grounds, which will tell you important safety information and highlight social distancing measures, such as floor stickers at a 2m distance.
Hand sanitiser will be provided at various points throughout the grounds and gardens.
Our toilet facilities by Admissions and in Mutiny Bay will be open for guests. We have introduced new measures within these facilities to ensure spatial distancing, please pay attention to the new signage on display there. As with other indoor settings, please bring a face mask to wear in our toilet facilities unless you have a valid exemption.
Tickets to visit the Alton Towers Gardens will be £12 for adults and £5 for children (children under 3 are free of charge). There is no charge for parking. Entry will be free to Merlin Annual Passholders and Alton Towers Season Passholders, but you still need to pre-book your ticket in advance.
Unfortunately pets or animals of any nature are not prohibited at Alton Towers Resort (except for guide dogs, hearing dogs and registered assistance dogs) and, for the avoidance of doubt, should not be left in any vehicle parked at the Resort.
In line with the current Government guidance, guests are required to wear face masks inside, including in our toilet blocks. We ask all guests over the age of 11 years old (without a valid exemption) to come prepared by bringing a face mask with them.
We ask all of our guests to observe the current Government guidance, issued on November 4th. Please only visit with members of your household or support bubble. If you are visiting on your own, you are able to meet up with one other person from another household outside whilst maintaining a safe distance throughout your visit.
