Arriving by car

Alton Towers Resort is between M1 and the M6. If you’re driving to any of our Resort’s attractions; including the accommodation, the Waterpark or Spa, then please use the postcode ST10 4DB. Please follow the signs for the last bit of your journey, as your Sat Nav will attempt to take you down a local farm track; especially if you’re coming down the B5417.

Please drive with care when you’re in the area, as there are many walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and the roads can be very thin in places.

 

The Monorail opens from 9am with Early Ride Time for hotel guests and Merlin Annual Pass holders from 9:30am. All other rides and attractions will open from 10am. Enjoy more fun and arrive early!

Travel Updates

If you are travelling to the Resort by car, then please be careful using your Sat Nav in the final stages of your journey, as it may take you down a local farm track. Please follow the signs for the last few miles.

 

25th - 31st March 2019: There are a number of overnight planned closures on the M6 between junctions 2 and 19 for smart motorway works. Please allow extra time if you are travelling to the resort between 9pm and 6am.

How to find us 

The Alton Towers Resort is very easy to find, with exceptional links for both road and rail.

The train stations nearest to the Resort are Stoke-on-Trent, Derby and Uttoxeter and if you are travelling by road, the Resort is between the M1 and the M6.

Arriving by Train

Public transport is available to Alton Towers Resort from popular Train Station destinations. The three closest train stations are Stoke-on-Trent, Uttoxeter and Derby. A bus service will need to be used for the rest of the journey.

Arriving by Bus

First Potteries operate departures from Stoke-on-Trent city centre (Hanley), Stoke-on-Trent Rail Station and Uttoxeter (except Sundays).

There is also a daily service X52 service that runs from Nottingham and Derby.

You can find the full timetables at the First Group and Notts and Derby websites. Bus routes may involve one or more changeovers to complete your journey. 

The three closest train stations are Stoke-on-Trent, Uttoxeter and Derby. Onward travel will need to be arranged from the stations.

How to get to Alton Towers by car

Alton Towers Resort is located between the M1 and the M6 and is well signposted from both motorways. Depending on your direction, the nearest motorway exits are:

M1 Northbound – Junction 23a

M1 Southbound – Junction 28

M6 Northbound – Junction 15

M6 Southbound – Junction 16

How to get to Alton Towers without a car

You don’t need a car to join in the fun at Alton Towers theme park and resort. The resort has excellent public transport links. Young visitors, large groups and environmentally conscious visitors travelling to the resort can do so by train.

There are three train stations near Alton Towers: Stoke-on-Trent, Uttoxeter and Derby. Visitors will need to contact a local taxi service for the rest of the journey to the resort.

We also have bicycle racks close to the theme park entrance, for local visitors and keen cyclists to utilise free of charge.

How to get to Alton Towers by Train

Visitors can travel to Alton Towers Resort by train, via several popular destinations. Visit thetrainline.com to search for train times and prices.  

Uttoxeter Train Station: Uttoxeter station is the nearest train station to Alton Towers, just 10 miles from the resort. Uttoxeter station is just a 20 minute drive away from the resort.

Stoke on Trent Station: Stoke on Trent rail station is 15 miles from Alton Towers Resort. A local taxi would take around 25 minutes to the resort.

Derby Train Station: Derby train station is around 25 miles from Alton Towers. From there you will need to order a taxi or a car service to arrive at the resort in around 50 minutes to one hour.

How to get to Alton Towers by Bus

Unfortunately there are not currently any direct coach or bus operators regularly travelling to and from Alton Towers Resort.

However, we do offer free coach parking for private parties and school trips.

Alton Towers Monorail

The Monorail takes visitors from the car park to the Theme Park entrance. The Monorail opens from 9am each day and closes one hour after the rides closes. Please note that ride close time varies between peak and off peak seasons.

Alternatively, you can walk from the car park to the theme park entrance. It takes between 10 and 25 minutes, depending where you have parked your car.

From Car Parks A, B and C, it takes around 10-15 minutes. Car parks D, E, F, G, and H are approximately 18-22 minutes from the park entrance. Car parks J and K are around 25 minutes walk from the theme park.
